A large earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.7 hit north of Japan early in August. The epicenter of the quake was off the coast of Hokkaido in the Sea of Okhotsk but no further damage to the completely destroyed Fukushima mega nuclear plant was reported. Japan is constantly bombarded with earthquakes putting all the best plans of mice and men in jeopardy in terms of saving humanity from further disaster at Fukushima.

“On top of being exposed to significant trauma by experiencing a huge earthquake, witnessing an explosion, and losing colleagues and family, the residents in Fukushima are currently living under the fear of the unknown effects of radiation in the air and grounds that their children play in,” says Dr. Mai Uchida, a fellow in child and adolescent psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Dr. Michael Fernex, a professor at University of Basel in Switzerland, who has visited Fukushima, said, “I met with four physicians from Fukushima Medical University in cardiology, urology, internal medicine and ophthalmology. They all seemed unaware of conditions related to radiation contamination. They were very surprised to see young patients with myocardial infarction, diabetes and eye diseases. Directive was given at Fukushima Medical University not to mention radiation. One young professor of ecology tried to study effects of nuclear disaster on children, but he has received threats. The majority of the faculty follows orders and they close their eyes to save their careers; this is very serious.”

Nuclear contamination continues to increase around Fukushima, in Tokyo and the rest of northern Japan, in the Pacific Ocean and other points around the northern hemisphere—though we can steel ourselves against the nuclear winds with appropriate medical action. Unfortunately doctors today have no idea what those actions should be. They are oblivious to anything safe and effective because they themselves use highly toxic substances—even dangerous radiation to diagnose and treat disease. Everything seems safe to mainstream doctors so they keep their mouths shut about the dangers that their patients should be made aware of. Perhaps the rest of us keep our mouths too shut because we use other forms of radiation to communicate and have fun with. Not easy to live in our modern world with all its dangers and fun offerings.

Situation is Anything but Funny

The situation on the ground at the crippled reactors remains precarious with present conditions being far beyond what has ever been imagined or planned for. The ground around the plant is getting hotter and the ocean more contaminated each day. Nuclear fuel is just lying on the ground and at the bottom of reactor vessels and containment floors so there will be no letup of the radiation, which will bio-accumulate and end up inside of men, woman and children in ever increasing amounts in ever increasing areas.

Butterflies in Japan are suffering from “serious abnormality” following the radioactive fallout after the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Scientists found an increase in leg, antennae and wing shape mutations among butterflies collected following the 2011 Fukushima accident. All mutant butterflies were caught far outside Fukushima evacuation zone rising once again to the public eye that our children, who are more sensitive then we adults, are being exposed.

Overwhelming are the implications for humans and the future of our race for insects were believed to be very resistant to radiation. These butterflies are showing irregularly developed eyes, malformed antennae and much smaller wings. Other scientists in Japan are looking at worms and are seeing die-offs but with survivors growing 10 times average size when raised on Tokyo soil contaminated with Fukushima radioactive material.

The global nuclear industry and its allies in government are continuing to cover up the consequences of the Fukushima disaster claiming that there will be “no health effects” as a result of it—but we have Arnold Gunderson telling us that Fukushima is the biggest industrial catastrophe in the history of mankind.

There’s more cesium in that [Unit 4] fuel pool than in all 800 nuclear bombs exploded above ground,” says Gunderson, “But of course it would happen all at once,” if the pool goes dry or the building falls down from the constant earthquakes that continue to haunt the area. Listen to Arnold on the radio talk show about the looming dangers that we would all rather not think about.

Gunderson is quite clear what will happen if building No. 4 goes. “It would certainly destroy Japan as a functioning country. Move south of the equator if that ever happened, I think that’s probably the lesson there.” Dr. Helen Caldicott in Boston agrees and said she would move her family south the minute reports come of further disaster at the Fukushima plant. I think it would be a little late at that point to do so for at that point there would be a panic that even the press would not be able to suppress.

Early on atFukushima Prefecture children were suffering inexplicable nosebleeds, diarrhea, and lack of energy. And children’s death rates increased noticeably in the United States on both east and west coasts in the months after March 11, 2011 when the radiation was most intense.

Some of the most important signs of radiation are:

Nose bleeding often occurs with radiation sickness. Blood of the throat, bleeding gums or blood from the rectum are also signs that radiation has impacted the body. Bleeding bruises occur, sometimes hematemesis. The bleeding is caused by the radiation reducing the number of platelets that clot blood in the body.

Diarrhea: Burning or “hits” are common—“hits” along the body’s cells that rapidly reproduce, including cells in the digestive tract. Irradiation causes irritation of the digestive organs that can cause diarrhea and sometimes bloody diarrhea.

Now they are being afflicted with large changes to their thyroids. “Over a third of children in Japan’s Fukushima region could be prone to cancer if medics don’t apply more effort in treating their unusually overgrown thyroid glands.” A report shows that nearly 36% of childrenin the nuclear-disaster-affected Fukushima Prefecture have abnormal thyroid growths. After examining more than 38,000 children from the area, medics found that more than 13,000 have cysts or nodules as large as 5 millimeters on their thyroids, the Sixth Report of Fukushima Prefecture Health Management Survey states.

We have news from Pennsylvania that the government is issuing iodine pills. The Associated Press (AP) has concluded that many of the nation’s facilities are still in operation because the safety standards to which they are held have been repeatedly weakened as regulations become more and more lax. The AP says that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has regularly lessened restrictions as the NRC repeatedly argues that, “safety margins could be eased without peril.” The AP warns that not only is the safety of much of America in danger but also one-fifth of America’s electricity supply.

Drs. A. V. Yablokov, V. B., Nesterenko and A. V. Nesterenko, said, “Data from Chernobyl, which exploded 25 years ago, clearly shows increased numbers of sick and weak newborns and increased numbers of deaths in the unborn and newborns, especially soon after the meltdown. These occurred in Europe as well as the former Soviet Union. Similar findings are also seen in wildlife living in areas with increased radioactive fallout levels.”

“The Ukrainian Scientific Centre for Radiation, which estimated that infant mortality increased 20-30% after the accident, said their data had not been accepted by the U.N. because it had not been published in a major scientific journal. There was burning resentment at the way the U.N., the industry and ill-informed pundits had played down the catastrophe,” wrote John Vidal for the Guardian.

Dr. Ernest J. Sternglass, who was professor of radiation physics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, in his book, Secret Fallout—Low-Level Radiation from Hiroshima to Three-Mile Island, concluded that all the research led to the most tragic conclusion that the unborn fetus was hundreds or thousands of times more sensitive to radiation than anyone had ever suspected.

Some researchers argue that all humans are regularly exposed to a natural low level of radiation, and that it is not harmful when below a certain threshold, although most would agree fetuses may be an exception. Studies on the effects of exposure are based mostly on large doses delivered quickly by atomic bombs, while radiation from the Fukushima disaster is resulting in constant low-level exposure that will continually be delivered over many years.

If the very young are already suffering and dying, what can we expect for the rest of us? And what about the young who are living through this but will be bombarded everyday of their life with ever-increasing contamination? It is the young who have the most to lose in all of this. Evacuation orders are already too late for many Japanese in northern Japan and it will be too late for the billions who live in the northern hemisphere if, God forbid, building No. 4 comes down at Fukushima and the spent-fuel pool goes critical.

Conclusion

The world and everyone in it is not too concerned and I guess the bottom line is we all have the right to shrug off dangers that we can do little-to-nothing about anyway. Though it does make sense to avoid exposure whenever possible there are severe limits in that our civilization is actually structured on many dangerous forms of technology on which we have all become dependent. Many nuclear plants are built right on top of fault lines, so they are truly “structured on danger”—they are expensive accidents just waiting to happen.

Gunderson says it’s going to cost Japan half a trillion dollars to stabilize Fukushima. I wonder where all this money is going to come from in a world headed down into financial ruin. Have you wondered why the world’s governments have not jumped in to create an international body to address the Fukushima nightmare to do everything possible to protect humanity as a whole?

Giving up rather than fighting for our collective lives is a disturbing sign of our times. We have created hopelessly reckless situations that defy rational solutions. The consequences of our collective actions, or lack thereof, have created a situation where there is going to be a vast retreat—a reorganization that will be forced upon us through hard contraction down to the bones of economic and civilized life.
